200th anniversary of Wilhelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller:
with the German National Theatre Weimar, Director: Lukas
Leuenberger. The German National Theatre Weimar will be staging
“Wilhelm Tell” open air at Rütli. A unique theatre experience at
a very special, historical location. 17 March 2004 marks the
200th anniversary of the first performance of “Switzerland’s”
most famous play. The work was written by Friedrich Schiller in
Weimar at the instigation of Goethe, who came across the Tell
material at Lake Lucerne. This became a lasting literary tribute
to the legendary hero and the landscape of the emerging Swiss
Confederation. The 2004 anniversary year provides good grounds
to celebrate this work of international stature in an
extraordinary manner; with a cultural link between the earliest
Swiss entity and Weimar. Taking part in this event:
The Tell Players and Theatre Company Altdorf, the production by
Lukas Leuenberger, the MUSEE SUISSE Forum of Swiss History in
Schwyz and the German National Theatre Weimar.
