The undisputed highlight of the cultural summer
FESTIVAL SUMMER 2004 is dedicated to the theme of “freedom” and concludes the programme trilogy launched in 2002, exploring the phenomenon of “mankind”. While the theme “seduction” looked at man’s outer world and the theme “I” examined man’s inner world, the theme “freedom” focuses on man’s path out of himself, as well as release from external and internal constraints. The theme of “freedom” is expressed in works such as Beethoven’s opera Fidelio, Dallapiccola’s Canti di Prigionia, the symphonies of Shostakovich and in Nono’s Il canto sospeso. The LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA is entering its second season. Claudio Abbado will again be conducting this exquisite ensemble of internationally-renowned soloists, which will be presenting the first week of the Festival with three symphony concerts, chamber music and chamber orchestra concerts.
