Afternoon Tea

Every Saturday and Sunday, 14 to 17 hrs.

Legend has it that the British tradition of “Afternoon Tea” was introduced by the Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Stanhope (1783–1857), a lady in waiting to Queen Victoria. However, many historians attribute this custom instead to Catherina of Braganza (1638–1705), the Portuguese wife of King Charles II. At the time of their marriage, 1662, tea drinking was already widely spread in Portugal, but not in England. So in keeping with Portuguese custom, she brought a tea service into the marriage and soon began to organize afternoon tea parties. Before long the aristocracy had followed the royal family‘s example – and so the idea of "Afternoon Tea" became firmly established.

The hotels of the VICTORIA-JUNGFRAU COLLECTION have revived the tradition, complemented by top-quality Swiss products. Each of our chefs celebrates teatime in his own individual style, offering guests a unique opportunity to enjoy the taste of tradition combined with other pleasures for the palate.
